Seven Days

Merry Seventh Day of Christmas! I love the fact that Christmas lasts for twelve days, the same way I love the fact (which I discovered late, in grad school) that Advent lasts for four weeks preceding the beginning of Christmas. It seems that the church does not celebrate her holidays the way Americans do: an incredible rumble and fury building up to one day, and then nothing. No, no, no. Holidays need semi-holidays to precede them, and then the holidays themselves last for days and weeks: Christmas for twelve days, Easter for seven weeks.
